tips for speaking to your legislator(s)
Want Your Voice Heard at the Utah Legislature?
As the Utah State Legislature prepares for its 45-day session, where hundreds of bills affecting our lives and public lands will be considered, it’s more important than ever for Utahns to engage thoughtfully with lawmakers.
Here’s how you can make your advocacy count:
Be specific and personal. Lawmakers say concise emails that include *your story* and a clear reason for your position have far more impact than mass or form messages.
Contact the right people. Start with your own representative and senator, and if a bill is up in committee, consider also reaching out to committee members with a brief, respectful message.
Attend town halls or committee hearings. Face-to-face engagement helps legislators remember you and understand your concerns.
Show up on Capitol Hill. Visiting committee meetings or talking with lawmakers in person signals that an issue truly matters to you and your community.
Civil, thoughtful participation can make a real difference. When you show up with respect and a clear message, you’re more likely to be heard.
As advocates for Utah’s public rivers and streams, we encourage you to be informed, engaged, and ready to speak up during the session. Your perspective matters.
